Ruby is a lovely and pretty chorus girl at a bar in Brooklyn, New York, that her boyfriend Danny McGuire runs. Rusty gets involved with Maurine Martin's contest to be on the cover of Vanity magazine. Cornwall Jackson gives Maurine a mediocre grade, and Maurine ruins Rusty's chances by giving her bad advice on how to deal with Cornelia. John Coudair, Cornelia's boss and a magazine editor, decided to check out Maurine at Danny's nightclub, but he was quickly drawn to Rusty. 40 years ago, he fell in love with showgirl Maribelle Hicks right away, and he later finds out that Maribelle is Rusty's recently deceased grandma.
When Rusty gets famous, Danny thinks she might leave him. Danny only needs to ask her to stay. John invites businessman Noel Wheaton to see Rusty perform. Noel is blown away by both her beauty and her skill. He offers her a job backstage. Danny doesn't want to get in her way, so he comes up with a reason to send her away. Following his performance in a musical created by Wheaton, Rusty becomes a famous Broadway star and makes the emotional decision to marry him. She reluctantly skips the wedding, though, and quickly finds her true love, Danny.
