Deck the Halls 2006 American Movie: Plot

Steve Finch, an optometrist who calls himself a "Christmas expert," wants his family to have a great Christmas in the made-up town of Cloverdale, Massachusetts. He wants them to follow family traditions like using an Advent calendar, taking pictures for Christmas cards in matching sweaters, and getting a big tree.

Buddy Hall, a car dealer and electrical engineer, and his trophy wife Tia move across the street in the middle of the night on December 1. Steve and his wife Kelly meet both of them the next morning. In the evening, Kelly, her daughter Madison, and her son Carter visit the Hall house and meet Ashley and Emily Hall, the Halls' teenage twin girls. Tia and Kelly become friends right away, and so do Ashley, Emily, Madison, and Emily.

Guy Buddy works as a used car salesman and sells a car to the store owner, who gives him a rise. That night, Tia tells Buddy that she's tired of always moving on and that he gets bored quickly no matter what he sells. Buddy tells her that he wants to do more than sell cars and copiers. When Buddy finds out that satellite pictures of the neighbourhood show his neighbourhood but not his house, he chooses to use Christmas lights to make it stand out. Buddy's display gets known around town as it gets bigger and includes live animals. This makes Steve angry and threatens his job as the "Christmas guy."

Steve's jealousy of Buddy grows. During different events, Steve's Christmas card picture is ruined when two of Buddy's scared wild horses are startled by the sleigh bells and take him on a wild ride that ends with him falling into a frozen lake; his car doors are torn off during one of Buddy's light shows; and his private Christmas tree lot is destroyed by a fire when Buddy spills petrol on his chainsaw. In the end, Buddy's house is fully lit up and even synced to music. Steve tries to turn off Buddy's lights by putting snow in his fusebox, but a backup generator stops him. Buddy finds out about the theft and gets back at the people who did it by stealing the town's Christmas tree, putting it in Steve's house, and "buying" him a car.

Steve and Buddy bet that if Steve wins the WinterFest speed skating race, Buddy will take off the lights. If Buddy wins, Steve will pay for the car. Steve yells at Buddy for being a nobody after Buddy wins because his house can't be seen from space yet. Buddy buys a lot of programmed LED lights to make up for his hurt feelings. He pays for them by selling Tia's expensive family heirloom vase, and then Tia and the girls leave.

Steve has had enough, so he gets some fireworks from a gangster, including "The Atomic Warlord," a big, illegal, military-grade rocket, and tries to destroy the Hall house. The rocket goes off by accident, setting fire to the town's Christmas tree. Steve's family then leaves, but not before Kelly scolds him for putting Buddy ahead of his kids.

Steve finds out that Buddy has been using his power to power Buddy's lights. But when Steve sees Buddy turn off his lights, he feels bad and forgives Buddy. They put aside their rivalry and use Buddy's lights to make a winter wonderland. They get Tia, Kelly, and the kids to come home with them, and Steve and Buddy make a nice meal for everyone.

Soon, everyone in town comes to Buddy's house to help him put up his lights again in time for an MTV story. They don't work, so everyone sings Christmas songs and lights their cell phones on fire. Steve says yes to Buddy's offer to be his friend while they sing, and Carter sees that the lights don't work because one of the plugs isn't in right. He plugs it in very tightly, which makes the lights shine brightly all night. As SuChin Pak works on the MTV story, MyEarth confirms that the house can be seen from space, which makes the crowd happy.
